IMPORTANT COMMUNITY BOARD MEETING THIS THURSDAY-NOV 14- TO DISCUSS IMPACTS OF NORTHWELL’S SCHEME
Thank you all for being a part of our community-led effort to stop Northwell’s disastrous scheme to expand Lenox Hill Hospital. Northwell’s 10-year, $2.5 billion development proposal will destroy the historic character of our neighborhood and create a crisis of construction noise, traffic, and air contamination throughout Lenox Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods.
JOIN US AT THIS WEEK’S COMMUNITY BOARD MEETING!
We wanted to make you aware that members of our campaign will be making a presentation alongside urban planner George Janes at the next meeting of Community Board 8’s Zoning and Development Committee, which will take place this Thursday, November 14 at 6:30pm. The meeting will take place at the New York Blood Center auditorium, located at 310 East 67th Street (between First and Second Avenues).
This presentation will focus on a new study by Mr. Janes that provides more detail on the deeply troubling impacts that Northwell’s proposed towers will have on the historic fabric of our residential neighborhood. This will include an explanation of the current zoning rules in Lenox Hill and an analysis of how the proposed towers will far exceed these rules, unlike any other building ever planned in our neighborhood. The presentation will also include shocking visuals that give the full picture of just how large these towers will be, the kinds of shadows they will cast and how they compare to other buildings throughout the community.
As you know, CB8 previously voted overwhelmingly to reject Northwell’s expansion plan for Lenox Hill Hospital. To that end, the community board will remain an important venue for discussing our opposition, education other local stakeholder and advancing our campaign.
In just 24 hours, our new petition to oppose Northwell’s scheme has generated more than 100 signatures! This is yet another indication of the strong momentum that continues to build around our campaign – but we will of course need thousands of signatures to send a clear message that this plan is absolutely unacceptable.
If you have not yet signed or shared the petition, please do so at your earliest convenience so we can continue calling on our elected officials to formally oppose this disastrous proposal. You can click here to view and sign the petition. We are also making hard copies available and if you would like to distribute hard copy petitions throughout your building, please contact us for assistance.
